Group Study vs. Private Instruction
There are tremendous benefits of both private instruction and group study depending on a student's needs, commitment and goals.
In private instruction, the immediate and individual needs of the student can be addressed.
This one-on one instruction enables the student and teacher to build a rapport, allowing both to explore new limits and goals not normally achieved in a group setting. The unique bond and obligation to each other helps to cement both a respectful and productive relationship.
Group study offers students and extraodinary environment where students are free to explore new boundaries and aspects of theater instruction. The interaction within this ensemble-type atmosphere enables students to grow and learn about themselves through others. Breaking down barriers and growing as individual and collective artists becomes possible in this setting. Our unique team teaching approach features an environment where students are challenged in two different styles and two different techniques yielding a balanced assesment of the individual's talent and potential.
Voice
Private voice features an individual study of the basic techniques of vocal production including breathing, voice placement, diction, phrasing, tone production and vowel formations. Students are exposed to music theory, anatomy of the instrument, song interpretation and style. A specific unit on styles, 1920s to present, is offered to students of all ages. Students perform in a recital each semester as well as many other, optional, public appearances.
